Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills
“Everyone is doing the best they can and everyone can do better” is a tenet of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and at PAC. A core dialectic of DBT is that it teaches individuals to radically accept themselves and reality while learning and applying concrete skills to better their emotion regulation, relationships, and life. DBT skills are integrated into therapy at PAC when they align with your therapy goals. DBT skills include mindfulness skills, interpersonal skills, emotion regulation skills, and distress tolerance skills. DBT skills may be a good fit for you if you want to:
- Learn more effective ways to communicate your needs to others
- Build and maintain healthy relationships with others
- Stop or reduce impulsive or emotion-driven behaviors you later regret
- Learn healthy techniques to quickly regulate your emotions when highly distressed
- Better understand your and others’ emotions and how to effectively respond to them
- Determine what you want in life and how to effectively pursue it
- Participate more fully and mindfully in your life
